FDF is pleased to be supporting

MNDA Julias House

.

During the first half of 2011 FdF undertook a fundraising campaign for two charities.  A series of events including a League Playing Netball Tournament at Wimbourne Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre, a Band Night/rock concert at Mr.Kyps, Parkstone, Poole – 3 bands playing (Jak the Lad, The Relays, and Weaver), and a Mixed Netball Tournament at Purbeck Sports Centre, and a raffle with fantastic prizes were staged.  The campaign culminated in a team from FdF completing the Three Peaks 24 Hour Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Mount Snowdon in 24 hours.

I am proud to say that your genersity helped contribute over £1,800 to Julia's House to date and over £6,000 to Motor Neurone's Disease Association.  Thank you to all of you who have made donations and who have helped.  The money is much needed in a time when central funding is under pressure.  These are two such worthy causes, and your contributions have made a difference.

The Charirties:

The first is a local charity, Julia’s House, Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to caring for children with life limiting conditions. The majority of children cared for are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18.  The aim of Julia’s House is to maximise and enrich the quality of life for Dorset children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

The second charity we are trying to raise money for is a national one - Motor Neurone Disease Association.  Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND kills five people every day in the UK and leaves people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. It is fatal with no known cure and kills half of those diagnosed within 14 months.
